To all who know me I have wild obsession with all things festive. Hopefully you will get to know me a little better & see how far my Christmas obsession really reaches!
I have been tagged by the lovely Becca (@becc4_blog) to complete just 10 questions after she has co-created this Cracking Christmas tag. I’m sure that the Becca and Nina would be thrilled if you both hopped on the bandwagon/sleigh-ride and took part yourselves.
What is your weirdest family tradition?
When I still lived at home, every 1st of December my Mum & I would play a very old 1940s Christmas CD (if anyone remembers the Merry Christmas Polka by The Andrews Sisters) We would dance around the kitchen island baking a million-and-one mini mince pies – which was always quite the spectacle for my Stepdad to walk in on with flour & mincemeat covering every surface. Every now and again my brother joined in on the shenanigans; shoved a few mince pies in his mouth, waltzed around & promptly disappeared again.
It’s Christmas Eve, what are you doing?
I have usually travelled back to my Mum’s by Christmas Eve, although last year I was working! We usually go out to watch a film at the cinema (the new Mary Poppins this year) & pay a visit to Costa for their divine Black Forest hot chocolates.
Top 3 Christmas Dinner Components?
Gravy – until everything is swimming in it!
Stuffing – sage & onion… always
Crispy roast potatoes
When do you decorate your house?
I feel like this is a bit of a controversial one, but I put my decorations up on November 1st… yes November, you have read this correctly. If Ross had it his way, he would make me wait until after his birthday. But his birthday fall just 9 days before Christmas; I will never ever wait that long! I love having my entire house covered in festivities for not just one, but 2 months. Definitely takes away any winter blues…
Loved & loathed Christmas songs?
I suppose its not technically a Christmas song, but a strong family favourite is Never Do a Tango with an Eskimo by Alma Cogan, its weird and wonderful and definitely worth a listen. I also love the classics Driving Home for Christmas by Chris Rea & Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas: Sam Smith’s version is divine.
It is a rare occasion that I dislike anything about this time of year, but I find Christmas Lights by Coldplay reallyyyy depressing, I just skip past this song. I cannot stand any Justin Bieber, period… but my brother had Mistletoe on repeat the year it came out and even if I hear the first 5 seconds it makes my skin crawl. Nope just nope!
One big present or lots of little things to open?
I personally prefer one big present, I am quite difficult to buy for & not a huge fan of surprises. I know exactly what I will be unwrapping for Christmas this year. To most of you this may ruin present opening but I still enjoy the theatricality of it all & just as excited to unwrap whatever I have chosen. Also I don’t like being the last one left peeling back layers of wrapping paper as I prefer to see the looks on loved ones faces as they open what I’ve chosen for them. Perhaps a tad hypocritical that I don’t like surprises, unless it comes from a ring box… that would be the exception!
What is your favourite Christmas decoration? (include a photo if you have one)
I love this bauble from John Lewis that I bought a few years ago, I’ve never seen anything like this & ended up creating my Christmas tree theme around this decoration this year.
Do you like to have a themed tree or a little bit of everything?
Themed for sure, I have a geometric white and blush pink tree this year and I bloody love it! I discovered The Range’s Christmas selection a few years ago and they are beautiful and so affordable and do every colour theme imaginable, they event had a mint green and teal aisle this year… *plans the next 5 years worth of Christmas trees*
Christmas pudding: yay or nay?
Christmas pudding is supposed to be one of those Marmite things, you love it or hate it. I’m awkwardly undecided. It depends if I’m in the mood for it, but if there’s a heavy dollop of brandy cream I’m more inclined for a mouthful or two of pud.
What’s at the top of your Christmas list this year?
This is oddly specific, but a gold circular bar cart. Ross & I have our first ever dining room & I’ve had a fixation on bar carts since we moved in, but they can be so pricey. Or if my other half is reading this, a ring or a dog would be the dream. Or a just the dog to add to our fur family…
